Gala Verde!

The USGBC South Florida chapter's 

2010 Gala Verde LEEDership Awards Program

went off without a hitch! It was a huge success and attended

by nearly 450 sustainable building pioneers!

The event, located at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida,

provided attendees to recognize and honor those

outstanding projects, inspriational businesses, dedicated individuals

and instrumental Chapter members who are leading the way

to a more sustainable environment.

located in the heart of resort town Delray Beach. 

And yes, it is LEED Certified!

to pursue certification half way through the construction phase.

Sustainable or "Green" Building

Everyone is going "green".  After all, it's the responsible thing to do.  But what does that mean in terms of construction? Aside from solar panels and recycling, what else is there, and what are the benefits?

First, sustainable, or "green", building is a style of design and construction that focuses on increasing the efficiency of resourse use - energy, water, and materials - while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.

Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

• Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
• Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
• Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation

So what are some of the benefits?  Effective green building can lead to:

1. reduced operating costs by increasing productivity and using less energy and water,
2. improved public and occupant health due to improved indoor air quality, and
3. reduced environmental impacts by, for example, lessening storm water runoff and the heat island effect.

Green builders often seek to achieve not only ecological but aesthetic harmony between a structure and its surrounding natural and build environment, although the appearance and style of sustainable buildings is not necessarily distinguishable from their less sustainable counterparts.

Anderson-Moore Construction Corporation recognizes the growing demand for sustainable design and building practices, and is committed to providing such construction services to clients pursuing a green or LEED-rated building.  AMC is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the local South Florida U.S.G.B.C chapter.  Additionally, Judith Schumacher, Vice President of AMC, is an active member of the S.
